Through the generous support of the parish community at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton, Council 7850 raised $19,303 over the weekend of May 17–18, funding the purchase and delivery of 128 brand-new wheelchairs through the American Wheelchair Mission.
The American Wheelchair Mission is a nonprofit dedicated to providing free mobility aids to physically disabled children, teens, and adults around the world who lack access to mobility and cannot afford a wheelchair. In many developing countries, up to 3% of the population is physically disabled, with rates climbing as high as 20% in regions affected by war and landmines.
“Each wheelchair doesn’t just help one person—it transforms the lives of entire families,” said Grand Knight SK Craig Robinson. “This is a beautiful expression of charity, dignity, and international solidarity.”
Wheelchairs enable children to attend school, adults to find employment, and the elderly to regain a measure of independence and human connection. On average, each wheelchair impacts ten lives, as recipients and their families are able to rejoin society, worship together, and reclaim their dignity.
While these chairs retail for $500 in medical supply stores, the American Wheelchair Mission can deliver them for just $150 per chair by purchasing in bulk (280 units per container) and shipping directly to those in need.
The mission's reach extends across the globe, with special focus on regions like Colombia, Cambodia, Afghanistan, and Iraq, where injuries from conflict and lack of healthcare leave many immobile.
Council 7850 is proud to be part of this vital ministry and thanks all parishioners who contributed to this powerful weekend of mercy and action.
